If a student has interest and confidence, she or he can learn anything! I am enthusiastic about what I teach, and I let students take the lead in solving problems to build independent skills and confidence. I am also a firm believer in understanding HOW things work, not just THAT they work--I combine problem-solving strategies with an understanding of why those strategies make sense.
I'm a recent graduate from Brown University, with experience tutoring at the middle school, high school, and college levels. Math and Biology are my favorite things to teach--I love the subject matter and I love to see it "click" with students. In math, I received an 800 score on the SAT, and a score of 5 on each the Calculus AB and BC exams. I also tutored algebra as a high school student. I'm currently studying up on everything from Trig to Calculus II so that I can take a Multivariable Calculus c ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe knowledge and success go hand-in-hand. That’s one of the main reasons I enjoy teaching and tutoring students of all ages. I’m grateful for the people in my life that have taken the time to teach and show me various things. I enjoy doing the same, passing along any knowledge that I’ve gained because information should be shared. I try to structure my teaching style to be a bit informal, so the student feels comfortable learning and asking questions. I also try to structure my teaching around the students learning style so that they can get the most out of the session. Lastly, I try to show any tricks for remembering certain information that either I was taught by my own professors or that I came up with during my own studies.

Since my graduation from Simmons College, Boston, MA in 1988, I have worked extensively in the publishing industry as a freelance writer for magazines, newspapers, and guides. Recently, I have become eligible to teach in the state of New Hampshire, and have worked as a Teacher Assistant in the Londonderry School District. I also have been tutoring students in grades 5-12 in reading, writing, and history. In addition, I have worked with younger students in mathematics. I truly love being an educator, and I hope to continue my role as a teacher. I particularly love working with learning disabled students in writing and reading.

A Little Bit About Me...

As an undergraduate, my focus for studies in English were both Critical Literary Analysis and Creative Writing. Analytical writing was stressed heavily, giving me the ability to interpret a text based on intrinsic value. The creative tract allowed me to experiment with my own abilities while keeping in mind strategies implemented by others I have read and studied. A requirement for all English majors at the university was to have intermediate skills in a foreign language. I have taken four semesters of Spanish at the college level with additional language labs. Spanish was also my foreign language of choice throughout secondary school and I have had first hand practice from my work in Guatemala.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love to teach and develop new teaching styles. I believe that everyone can learn as long as someone is able to meet their needs. I remember what it was like being clueless in the classroom, and I use my experience in teaching myself how to learn in tutoring my students.
Before attending college I worked at an after-school program in Boston that served k-5 students. This program focused heavily on homework completion and educational activities. During college I tutored fellow students through a TRIO program and through the althetic department in numerous courses in psychology and French, mainly statistics.

My teaching style is entirely individualized to meet the needs of the child. As a special educator, my instruction has most often been diagnostic, targeted to meet specific goals and objectives. I relate activities to real life, so that lessons are interesting and students can apply and generalize learned skills. I use a multisensory approach. My lessons often include a combination of visuals, formula guides, manipulatives and other materials carefully selected to support and engage the individual student.
As a fourth year special education teacher, I have an extensive repertoire of strategies to help students learn. Having worked with both disabled and nondisabled children, primarily in small group and 1:1 settings, I have developed an acute sense of each of my students' learning styles, strengths and needs. Previously, I have tutored in math, social studies and study skills at th ... read more

I am a very honest, laid back teacher. I ask a lot of my students, but I do not do so in an intimidating manner. I like to have conversations with my students about things which they don't even realize are related to the topic we are working on. My extensive experience with special needs students has taught me how to get through to students who may not necessarily want to do the work they are being asked to do. I believe this is my strongest asset as a potential tutor in your program. I have worked with students who are eager, yet want to learn, and I have worked with students who want nothing to do with school as well. I believe that all children respond to somebody who is honest and outgoing with them - someone who is willing to give of themselves, rather than simply asking the student to do all of the giving. The greatest compliment I have ever received was when a special education ... read more

I love educating people, adults and childern. I am a hand's on teacher and try to make learning as fun as possible, coming up with games and simplified learning techniques. I believe if you make learning fun and interesting any kid can excell. I love the look of understanding and pride on a kid's face when they understand how to solve a problem.
At the University of Massachusetts I exceled in Math and Science classes. I orginally planned on being a Math major but chenged course after taking an Environmental policy class. As a law student, I have been committed to the public interest. I have focused my attenion on environmental issues. A Little Bit About Me...

I am very enthusiastic about teaching and about science. I believe that all students can learn if they are supported and if they are shown how the information they are learning is relevant to their lives. With high expectations and a strong support system, all students, even those who are struggling, can achieve their full potential. As a teacher I believe it is important to support all students and help them learn in whatever ways necessary. It is the job of the teacher to spark the student's interest in a particular subject. It is important to me to educate students about science because it is so important in the world around them.
