I enjoy teaching at the high school level because these kids are fun to teach. Every student has different needs and I try to meet these with various teaching styles. I find that a lot of students learn well when they are shown the information or how to do something, are lead through a process and then proceed to "teach" the process or information back to me. Others require me to help them decipher the text as science can be considered a new language for some. My goal and first priority is always to get the students to graduate. To avoid mind-numbing repetition, I present the material with a combination of text and pictures, then review the material with ungraded short answer exercises ("active learning – I do and I understand"). My teaching style is very simple and I believe it is effective. I have found that going through problems does not always help kids learn. I always try to tutor the basics and establish a plan for problem solving. The children need to know how to attach a problem not how to plug numbers into equations.
While attending the University of Massachusetts at Lowell I work to help other students that were having difficulty understanding the material presented. My style of art is hands on and viewer participations. After recieving my master's degree in Visual Art; I started teaching youngsters in the museum classes, Boston Children's Museum, Worceser Art Museum, and Fitchburg Art Museum.
