My comments on tutoring Dyslexia : Over the past year, I used the Wilson Fundations Program with a student and it has helped them become a better reader

I have been working with Elementary aged children for over 7 years. I have had many different teaching experiences working with grades K-2. I have tutored primarily in reading with an emphasis on guided reading strategies, phonemic awareness, and word building. In the area of math, I have experience with the programs: Calendar math, Investigations, and Singapore Math. For Writing, I have used the Lucy Culkins Program as well as 6 Traits writing. I enjoy working with students to help them gain confidence and find their passion in learning.
When I first meet my students, I want them to feel comfortable with me and what we will be doing. I try to get to know them as we work together and find out what their interests, hobbies, strengths, weaknesses, and other important factors in their lives. I consider myself to be a life long learner. I am eager to learn and attend professional development regularly. I hold a Masters degree in Education. As a certified Reading Specialist, I have a lot of training in several reading intervention programs. I am certified in the Wilson Reading System. During the last 12 years I have taught students in grades K-8 in reading, English as a Second Language, math, and language arts.
