In my experience, most students under perform in science and math due to the an inability to relate theses subjects to practical real life examples. Connecting chemistry and physics principles with analogous real life examples is the key for students to become both interested and proficient in these subjects. When a student gains an appreciation for a subject, it will certainly be reflected in by their grades.
After attending the University at Albany for four years I have accumulated a wealth of experience in Chemistry and Physics which has culminated in multiple accolades and two degrees. I am finishing up my Bachelors degree in Dietetics at SUNY Oneonta- I will be graduated in December. I have been offered positions as a chemistry tutor but denied because of my other jobs. I was a student mentor for a year in high school to students that were "slacking" or wasn't understanding one or more of their classes. I worked at Albany ARC and worked to train young adults and adults in the kitchen- which also included basic skills such as counting and reading.
I really would like to help make a difference in someone's life and help them understand academics just like myself. When I try to teach someone, I always explain to them the subject as basic and simple as possible. I give a few examples, and then help them figure it out themselves. When/ if they struggle, I will be there to help set them back on track.

My teaching style tends to reflect the learning style of the student. I like to use various forms of study materials to ensure the student has a good grasp on the subject. I usually review the material with the students first and then give them a quiz to see what they have learned and where there weaknesses are.
Most of my experience comes from tutoring my younger siblings in math and science. In high school, I tutored my younger peers to do well on their regents exams. I was the valedictorian of my high school and I got 5's on many of my AP exams. I graduated college summa cum laude with a BS in Human Biology. I have an extensive background in science, but I also skilled at writing research papers.

I love teaching and appreciate that subjects such as chemistry can be very difficult for young people. This difficulty is often present for two reasons. The first is that chemistry is not necessarily intuitive. It studies particles that are too small to see and cannot be observed directly. The second is that most of the basic theory is derived with very advanced math and most students are taking chemistry in the tenth or eleventh grade. This means that a conceptual understanding is crucial to success. I attempt to employ easy examples and analogies while patiently talking through problems and constructively giving students a chance to discover answers.
