For the last twenty years I have been teaching at one of the top private schools in Charlotte and I have enjoyed every minute of it. As my 3 wonderful children became more and more independent, I have taken more and more responsibilities including developing a peer tutoring program, chaperoning international trips, assisting with the yearbook publications...I have the reputation to not only know my topic but also to have great skills at helping students identify their weaknesses and giving them strong study skills that will carry over any discipline. I find nothing more exciting and rewarding than teaching a topic or subject to an individual and seeing the expression and excitement on their face when they truly begin to understand the material. I love working with children and young adults. My challenge as a tutor is to take something that is difficult and make it fun and understandable. Too often students look at teachers or adults as enemies, and I try to take a very laid-back, conversational approach when tutoring. Obviously if the child is being tutored in a particular subject, there is an obstacle or a problem in that area so it is important to build the child's confidence and show them that they can succeed.
