My comments on tutoring Elementary Study Skills : Use only positive reinforcement

I use the Socratic method, meeting the students where they are, and using gentle questioning to build on that base. I start with the assumption that all children are gifted learners, and communicate that belief to them. It is essential to create a base of success upon which to build future success. I also spend time finding something to like deeply about each child; and discovering what the child is interested in. When an adult takes an interest in the child's world, and shares that interest in a positive reinforcing manner, it opens to door to learning.

My comments on tutoring Elementary Study Skills : It isn't hard to be organized.

I've completed high school and been accepted into college, so I obviously have what's needed for the lower levels of education, such as elementary students, and I maintained a GPA of 3.5 throughout my high school career, so there is a good change I'll at least be able to get the resources needed for your student to excel in the subject of study they struggle in. I'm very good with younger children, I've worked with them extensively for several years.
I prefer to try to be more hands-on in my approach to teaching, especially with younger children. I do know that their attention span isn't as long as that of older people, so I try to keep them engaged through short and interactive sessions.

Literacy specialist K-12 offering services beginning June

I have over 15 years of full time teaching experience in a combination of grades, K, 2, 3, and 4. I moved from teaching within a classroom to accepting a reading specialist position in a high poverty district. I taught reading interventions for three years before being asked to step in to an instructional coach roll for teachers.
