A Little Bit About Me...

I have always loved teaching and tutoring. Whether it is friends, family, children, or college students, the potential to learn present in anyone has always astounded me. Through encourgment, repetition, and practicallity anyone is capable of learning under a caring teacher. Frustration is often the biggest deterent to anyone seeking education, and a tutor with kindness, understanding, and most importantly, patience is the most important factor in overcoming it.
As a graduate student at Kansas State University I have learned the value of education. I was awarded a BA, Social Sciences, in December, 2000. Upon relocation to kansas city, Missouri, in 2001, I began training in a teacher education program, 2003, Kansas City Missouri school district, earning teacher certification, Adult Basic Education,2003. Such included teaching GED related courses,2003-2007, and substitute teaching, k-12. I also served in telemarketing for both the Kansas City Star Newspaper and the Nelson Gallery of Art, 2002-2009. I taught elementary Art, P.E., and library class. In addition, I taught a 12th grade Transitions course, for a year in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. I frequently helped kids with their homework after school, as needed. I volunteered as a 3rd grade Sunday School teacher for a year. I have a bachelor's and master's degree in Social Work.
I am a student-oriented teacher and am willing to do all I can to make learning approaches applicable to each child’s needs. My goal in tutoring is to help the child connect with the subject at hand and develop a greater interest in learning, irrespective of the method used. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is patient. I don't believe there is any other way. I listen, I watch, and I give helpful suggestions. I answer the student's questions only as far as what is needed. The students that I work with know and understand that they will be doing the work. I create a friendship with my students so that they respect me as more than a tutor and that I respect them more than a student. Yet, I will help students learn new ways to remember procedures and processes. Overall, I and my students will work together to learn from each other, and to increase our love for learning.
