I have a natural affinity for teaching. Although I have "formally" taught for the last 3 years; I have volunteered in various capacities teaching young and mature alike. I find innovative ways for my students to learn and my passion and enthuiasm for learning is contagious. I am a very motivating person and tend to use humor as a method of teaching. I teach to and with the child and never down to him/her. I break large components into their simplest forms so that a child learns to take things one step at a time and not feel overwhelmed. I make the learning relevant to what the child is interested in or knows about so that he/she can be more engaged in the learning process. We set the goal-a reasonable one yet with high expectations and together we achieve it. For the past ten years, I have been teaching High School English. My style of teaching is centered around three basic concepts. Building relationships with students, making the information something they can relate to, and finally providing them with lessons that challenge them while simultaneously making the lesson something they can comprehend. My teaching style gives each one of these elements equal weight. Everything I do to ensure a student’s academic success is somehow related to the relationship, relevance of the instruction, or rigor. I began working in the field of education nearly 4 years ago. I began to substitute and found that I enjoyed working with high school aged students. I was always great in math so that became my subject of choice. I worked hard to develop lessons that would be both challenging and interesting for the students.
