Through my teaching experiences, I have found the method of facilitating rather than dictating, to be a highly beneficial style of teaching. My teaching experiences have taught me that if students construct their own learning experiences, they will not only retain the information longer but they will also become more confident in their abilities. In special education I also realize how important it is for a teacher to adapt their teaching to the learning styles in the environment that they are placed. I have come to realize how vital education is in the preparation for young individuals to achieve success in all endeavors set before them. I obtained my BA in Social Work and have worked in that field since 1993. In 2005 I began a part time job as an Adult Education instructor for Sentinel Career Center where my primary focus was language arts/writing. I was part of the STAR reading program where I became certified to teach adults to read. In this program and as a GED instructor I have tutored many individuals of varying ages, education levels and backgrounds. In my work as a social worker, I work primarily with children with mental health issues/learning disabilities where the focus is on behavior, organizational,study and communication skills and parenting education.
