I am a graduate of both the University of Colorado and Adams State College. I hold a Master's degree in Secondary Education as well as a Initial Teacher's license. My formal teaching experience consists of weekly classes and workshops at Artful Journey, and over three years at ArtWorks Fine Art Studio. While there I taught traditional drawing and painting with a focus on teaching students to draw realistically. I guided all ages through color theory, design, drawing, painting, and printmaking. I also helped manage our studios, set up new curriculum for our summer workshops and developed and created working examples. I also held a teaching assistantship at Cranbrook, which consisted of mentoring my fellow graduate students, managing our facilities, and assisting our artists in residence.
My overall aim in dealing with students at every level is to construct an atmosphere of mutual respect where I may equip each student with a strong foundation and provide them with the confidence and desire to acquire the skills, independence, and motivatio ... read more

My teaching style is patient and caring, while being consistent with expectations. I believe the role of a teacher is to facilitate learning. Differentiating for students according to their individual needs and learning styles is at the forefront of my teaching. I have been tutoring children while in college and since. I tutored children as part of the No Child Left Behind Act in the fields of reading, English, math, history, and science. Since graduating college, as performing as a case manager in mental health and for homeless families, I have tutored children in the same fields. I have also tutored college level students in the fields of statistics, writing, and psychology.
My teaching style is to analyze the information that is lacking with the students in question and then decide which form learning is appropriate based on the child's desires (i.e. didactic or experiential).

A Little Bit About Me...

It wasn’t until my boys started school and I spent time in their classrooms that I realized I had a passion and an aptitude for working with young students. I was hired by the Boulder Valley School District in 2007 as a para and soon after was working one on one with special needs students in kindergarten. This realization prompted me to re-enter the college scene as a graduate student, which I finished this December.
I do best working one on one with students or in very small groups. I like to get to know my students. This helps me determine how they learn and how I can make their experience as useful as possible. Also, its more fun to do work with someone that you respect and understand.

I am a recent graduate of Northern Arizona University with degrees in Anthropology and Religious Studies with Honors and Summa Cum Laude with a 4.0. I am also fairly fluent in Spanish; I took classes in both high school and at the university level, and spent a summer volunteering in Costa Rica in a Spanish-only village. My studies provided me with a solid education of many different cultures and traditions, and as a Teaching Assistant I needed to work with people of different backgrounds and lifestyles. I was there as a resource for students, and enjoy teaching and working with others.
I am comfortable of working with people of all ages, but I especially enjoy teaching children. I remember growing up knowing that I learned differently than others as I was a very visual learner. I understand that all children have their own way of learning and getting one-on-one help from someone who can teach in that way will really help to excel their knowledge in that subject. My philosophy is to make learning fun so the child is excited to meet with me, providing learning games, puzzles and prizes which has been very successful for me in the past. I love teaching children and think they could all meet their potential, but may just need that one person to give them confidence to do so. I look forward to meeting and teaching new children as they are our future.
