My undergraduate degree is in Visual Arts. My teaching philosophy starts out with essentialism which believes in a strong core curriculum and high academic standards. I believe it is important to have a strong foundation on which to build upon. After ensuring a strong foundation I tend to lean more towards progressivism. I believe students should be taught what is relevant today while becoming more independent learners, by utilizing problem solving skills and critical thinking. I teach the foundation and build upon that based upon what is relevant in a particular field today. I also include student-centered teaching strategies. I believe in order to learn a student must have base knowledge of a subject that leads into hands on assignments which require mastery of a subject. I have earned a bachelors degree in Chemistry from East Tennessee State University. I have more than 100 hours of volunteer experience in all fields of area due to being in organizations like Alpha Phi Omega, Phi Sigma Pi and President's Pride throughout my college career. I believe I'm qualified to teach computers because I use it everyday and know basically most of all the Microsoft Office. English/LA and Social Studies probably not as qualified but I know the basics, if I did not I would not have a Bachelor's degree right now. I love educating all children in order to achieve their long term life goals. I am patient, friendly and easy to get along with. I can make learning enjoyable and more easy. In 2006 I taught graphic design topics at Westwood College. In 2007 I taught the same subject at The Creative Circus (roughly equivalent to an MBA program for designers, writers, photographers, and art directors). In 2008 I taught in the design department for Georgia State University. This summer I traveled to a remote region in India to teach English. I have taught GRE prep for the past 3 years, covering the verbal, quantitative (math), and analytical writing (essay) areas. As a test prep teacher, I have a close knowledge of students' approach to graduate school, and the process of improving their chances of acceptance to schools of choice. I am academically qualified and more especially interested in teaching humanities courses. The method of teaching I prefer is maieutic, i.e., one which draws knowledge from the student, rather than attempts to place it in him/her from without.

I enjoy working with children, however, I don't feel I have one teaching style. I like to be able to adapt to how the children learn the best. My favorite teaching style is hands on activities such as experiments and crafts. I take pride in my creativity. I have earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Miami University in history. I currently am enrolled at University of Tennessee at Chattanooga to obtain a Masters Degree in Education with a license to teach in the state of Tennessee in the middle grades. I have worked as a nanny during undergraduate for a couple different families. I have also worked through the YMCA as an after school teacher where I helped students K-6 with their homework. After graduating with a BA is History, I have worked as a Pre-Kindergarten Teacher, a Kindergarten Substitute Teacher, and an after school teacher for children 4 years through kindergarten.

I am a graduate of Bryan College with a degree in Music Education, having taken many education classes and completed a semester of student teaching at the elementary and high school level in Rhea County schools. My prior experience in teaching comes from over 5 years of teaching piano lessons to beginning through advanced students from age 4-adult. While at Bryan, I was a tutor for music theory students as well as assisted and edited English and literature papers and essays. I have a great love of teaching and guiding young people in their academic studies. My approach to teaching or tutoring is open and involves as much personal encouragement as I can. I believe it is essential for the student to have a desire to learn in order for retainable education and it is essential for the teacher/tutor to encourage this desire as much as possible through teaching practices and activities.
