My style may be causual or it may be very structured and organized. In many instances there is more than one way to find the answer to a problem. It is so exciting to see a student find their way through learning problems. I have taught 15 years in the Missouri public school system. I have taught fine arts, K-12, throughout my career. Laid back, but encouraging.If a child is struggling, I don't think you should add fear and criticism to the situation. Having had Catholic nuns in all my grammer school days, pretty much put the "fear of God" into me, until I went on to public high school and college. then I was able to relax and embrace english and literature. My BA degree was in Speech & Theatre. Who would have known that a shy kid like me would have excelled in public speaking, english, and theatre. I love the English language, even though I've had classes in French and Spanish. I started school when I was 4 years old (too early), and all my grade school years was challanged with education. While I was in college, I was a nanny/ tutor for two girls- ages eight and nine for two years. Soon after, I spent two years as a paraprofessional, working one-on-one with emotionally disturbed and behavior disorder students ages twelve to eighteen. These are the reasons that I belong to TESOL and the International Reading Association. In addition to belonging to these organizations, I have continued to pursue new knowledge by attending graduate classes at the University of Kansas.
