I like to work one on one with books. I write out examples and explain different ways to approach a problem to help Foster different learning styles. I think it is important to be able to teach when the school systems move from books to tablets for classrooms.
I am a stay at home of a toddler. I am currently getting my associates degree in veterinary technology. I moved to Anniston about a year ago. Before I moved I tutored my brother since kindergarden. My personal style of learning is to learn by doing. I get my students involved in any process and get them to actually do the work so they learn it from experience, not just reading about it and taking for granted they know what is going on. Seeing the steps in action and seeing the final result brings a sense of accomplishment, which helps a student learn the correct way of doing whatever it is they are trying to learn.
I have lead many training sessions dealing with a multitude of different topics. I do my homework, and make sure I am fully prepared before any training session. Many children struggle with classroom learning because they require a different learning method than the one being offered or more direct attention than a teacher of 20+ students can offer. As a dyslexia therapist I was instructed in a number of different approaches to teaching and how to match each one to an individual student's needs. Before I start tuoring a child, I like to get know them first. I think it's important to build trust with a child before jumping in and telling them what to do. A child will be more likely to accept help from someone they know rather than a total stanger. I like to make learning fun.
At Birmingham-Southern College, I was the News Editor for the college newspaper for two years. In addition, I have a minor in Journalism. I love to write and I feel that this is one of my strong points. I also tutor two young girls every Wednesday afternoon at Girls, Inc. of Central Alabama. I help them with everything from writing, to reading, to math and history. I am also working on my Masters Degree and will graduate with a Masters Degree in Counseling in 2011.
