A Little Bit About Me...

I am a hands on teacher and believe in using programs like Jing to share computer screens so that students can see exactly how or where something is and how to accomplish their end goals.
I have an associate degree in Digital Media and a Bachelor of Science in Graphic Design. I have recently graduated from my BS program from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh with a 3.44 GPA. I have spent the last eight years in school working in graphic design. I am familiar with the Adobe family of products. Photoshop is my first love. I am also working on learning Art Rage as well.

After 13 years of employment with the Oklahoma City Police Department, I decided to finish my degree, and become a certified teacher. This decision was due to the Police Department recruiting me to teach various computer classes to police officers. I have taught various beginning and advanced computer classes, Algebra II, and business math. I have also tutored students who have failed high school math classes. Each student I have tutored has brought their grade up to at least a "C" average (from a failing score). One student I tutored enrolled in a class at OU for high school credit (Algebra II). While pursuing my BA accounting and BA in business finance at Wilmington College, I was very involved in tutoring other students at the college. At Wilmington College, we had supplemental instruction which is basically a group tutoring session where the leader is chosen by the professor teaching the course. I was a supplemental instructor for five (5) different courses and I was also an individual tutor for the five supplemental instruction classes along with two (2) other courses. I really enjoy tutoring and helping students with their classes.

I understand that each child and person learns differently (Auditory, Visual, Tactile) so I try to discover their style and incorporate as much as possible. A Little Bit About Me...

I tailor my teaching style to the student. I first evaluate where the student is by building rapport, discussing the problem he/she is having, talking to the teacher, and talking to the parents. I then begin focusing on the area where the student is having difficulties. It may be that the student requires help with homework as well as review of fundamentals. I address both areas, always encouraging the student.
I have taught as a tutor in High School, and college. I also taught in the adult education system of Fairborn, Ohio. I have acted as a group home monitor for MR/DD adults. I am presently tutoring a young adult in cost control and algebra.
