My teaching is relational and student centered. I motivate by affirmation and encouragement. I beleive it is important to listen to students and pay attention to their strenghts, fears, hopes, and passions.
I taught 7th grade English for one year and 5th grade general education for three years. Prior to teaching, I tutored writing and study skills in our university acedemic skills department. I have also tutuored adults learning English as a second language and adults learning to read. Additionally, I have worked at after school programs, homeschooled a student who could not attend school for 3 months because of a brain injury, and volunteered as a reading partner for an elementary school student for three years. My most previous work experience has been as a pastor of two rurual congregations in Iowa. My family has recently relocated to Richland Center, WI.
