I have worked with children of all ages in different environments and capacities for the past 20 years. It all started at the YMCA Afterschool and Summer Programs which gave me my first satisfactory feeling for being around young people. That led to substitute teaching and to 6 years in the classroom with 6th graders. For 1 year I taught English as a Foreign Language in Slovenia and Germany. Children are not students. They are not tools, nor are they pieces of a larger machine. They are people, impressionable and as important as the rest of the world. So, then, why would we expect everyone to learn the same? To teach a child in any discipline requires, in some cases, finesse, and an ability to adapt to their needs.
