A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that everyone learns in different ways and at different speeds; teaching begins with discovering the learning needs of each student. With this understanding, I believe that essentially any student can learn any subject if the curriculum is engineered to meet that student's learning needs. While the classroom encourages group learning, individual tutoring can meet the individual needs of each student. As a tutor, I enjoy overcoming barriers to learning, connecting with the student on his or her own level, and communicating the subject material through an individualized method.
While earning my degree in English, I developed teaching and communication skills through both curricular and extra-curricular experiences. As an undergraduate, I worked with the America Reads Program, mentoring a first grade student with reading difficulties. We met three days a week for an entire school year and progressed through successive lesson plans. I currently work as a mentor and advisor, for Florida State Universities Advising first program. On a daily basis, I interact with first time college students who are undecided on their course of study. We discuss collegiate and career objectives and generate a class schedule that reflects their interests as well as full fills their liberal studies requirements.
