I believe my teaching style is very adaptive to the age and need of the learner, however, I require parental support, dedication, and willingness on the part of the student to make my tutoring approach successful. I believe we are all lifelong learners and with hard work and dedication can achieve any goal we have for ourselves. I do not see myself as very strict nor am I very lenient.
I have never tutored before, however, I have taught Sunday School for two years, I am currently volunteering at two Museums where I am engaged in educational activities, and I have experience in home schooling my 5th grader. I have just recently graduated from college and will begin my graduate studies this August. I have received a GPA of 3.89 and I am an excellent writer, editor, researcher, and test preper. My comments on tutoring Political Science : I have my B.A. in History and a minor in Philosophy from the University of Colorado. It would be juxtaposed if anyone claimed to understand Political Science, but I do have a minor in philosophy and I am an avid follower of contemporary politics. Today will be history tomorrow!

I am a newly grad from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs; I earned my B.A. in History and a minor in philosophy. I maintained a 3.5 GPA and had the honor of being selected to study abroad at the University of Puerto Rico while writing my senior thesis on the socioeconomic conflicts of Puerto Rico's independence movement. I will be pursuing my Master's degree next fall, continuing the path of academia. I relate well to students because I am a lifelong student. Also I am a husband and a proud parent of three children. I am experienced at running a healthy household where academics reign supreme; dictatorship is often avoided under the guide of homework being an opportunity to show off. Kids find that fun. I am also aware of the challenges of parenting because I too am a parent.
There is not progress without dedication; there is no dedication without interest. I spark inte ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I worked at Moorpark College as an ESL and Writing Tutor, helping students discover ways to identify and clarify ideas, refine a topic, outline ideas, and develop the skills needed to work independently. I have my BA from Scripps College in both English and History. I have significant experience tutoring within the humanities, but also German, math and the sciences. I started college as a Biology major, so I have a firm grounding in mathematics and the sciences, which I have bolstered to prepare for graduate school in Architecture. I was a Jumpstart (AmeriCorps) team leader, which involved implementing early childhood curriculum and promoting skill building for at-risk preschool children.
I have helped children prepare for preschool through games and activities, and community college students brainstorm ideas for transfer essays. I am very organized, responsible and trustworthy. I ... read more

As a graduate of a presigious liberal arts college, I was driven to a belief in life-long learning. As such I have been to graduate school twice, once in business and once in international relations, to gain an understanding of the world in which we live both in terms of economics and finance and through the study of foreign policy and the wider world. I became fluent in Spanish while on assignment in Spain in the early 1990's and keep my skills current by working actively with the Latino community. I am also a scholar of 20th century european and diplomatic history, with concentration on the period between the two world wars. I currently teach Consumer Economics and Business at Pike's Peak Community College, and English as a Second Language through Catholic Charities.
I love teaching and working with students of all sages. I believe that you are never too old or too young to lear ... read more

At the outset of the personal computer revolution I sold and supported Tandy computers. As part of the support function I instructed clients in the use of their computers. A whole new world blossomed for me. Teaching clients to use their computers turned out to be a long term and very rewarding experience. During my thirteen years as The Computer Tutor I encountered a multitude of student learning difficulties. By working with the individual students, creative solutions were structured and successfully executed. Tutoring the non-traditional students to achieve their goals was by far the greatest reward. Their resulting change in demeanor was very heart warming. What more can a teaching professional ask? Having a very positive impact on a student’s life and be paid for it.
Three teachers impacted my life not only as a result of the content of their classes but in their d ... read more

I love working with children and my goal in life is to teach elementary level students. I do not give up in finding ways to reach children of all ages. I have also assisted my sons and their friends with school work and study skills.
While working toward my master's degree, I started working in a high school as a para-professional. I also studied a lot of physical and social sciences, which I feel are my stong points.

A Little Bit About Me...

While teaching at a charter school for at-risk students, I have worked with all levels of academic abilities as well as behavioral issues. I believe in different learning styles and tailoring instruction to the student’s interest and abilities. Not everyone learns in the same way or at the same speed, but everyone can learn.
I have been teaching at a charter school for at-risk students for 10 years. I have taught both English and History, as well as administered all required state testing. In 2005 while I was one of two English teachers in the school, my school won the Gains Maker Award for three years of continuous improvement in writing. Also, I have a Master’s Degree in Curriculum & Instruction. I have worked with all levels of academic abilities as well as behavioral issues.

I have differentiated instructions, given whole group presentations, and integrate various standards into the lesson.
My teaching style provides for low, mid, and high learners. I modify the assignments to elevate frustration and anxiety for lower learners. I provide repeated directions, frequent check-ins, and extended time. I give encouragement and positive feedback to students who are benchmarked. I am very adaptive. I accept challenges warmly. I love working with children; I teach at my church at the elementary level weekly. I also enjoy working with adults in a non-threatening way. I am a patient person and know that learning can be fun if presenting correctly.
I have recently retired from the U.S. Army as a medic. During my service, I was frequently responsible for both formal and informal teaching and training. I learned to easily adapt to various learning styles, learning barriers, and researching subjects. While still in the service, I utilized my lunch breaks and evenings to further my education and emerged with my AA and completed Nurse Assistant training while still serving and my BS only one year later; two months after retiring. Currently, I am working on my MS in Health Promotion with a certificate in Disaster in Public Health. I am capable of producing ... read more

Most of my career experience has been in News-Editorial and creative writing. As my daughter and son (now young adults) have grown and matured, I have been involved at several levels and in various paid and volunteer capacities as teacher, assistant/aide, and tutor. My substitute teaching experience primarily has been in the subjects of English, social studies, music, math, and art.
I am patient, kind, respectful, and good-humored. I have noted that my own excitement in learning is contagious. I believe each of us excels in individual areas of particular interest. I support self-esteem, self-respect, and respect for others, and I think these qualities and values are self-motivating. I learn, as well, from those whom I teach.

I taught 5th grade for 3 years, right out of college, then began substitute-teaching k-12 and have been doing that for the past 5 years. In addition to this, I have been a nanny to various aged children and helped them with their schoolwork and studies. I believe my experiences with children, ranging in age from infants through 12th grade, have developed my ability to be flexible and to adapt to many different learning environments and abilities. I have substitute taught English, Math, Science, History, Physical Education, Home Economics, Business, and many other subjects. I also taught my own classroom of 5th graders all basic core subjects appropriate to that age. I believe I have many tutoring capabilities based on my wide range of experience with children in and out of the classroom.
As educators, teachers and tutors play a vital role in the lives of children. I consider ... read more

As a graduate in Political Science from the U.S. Naval Academy, I received an education focusing on critical thinking and writing, but also heavily steeped in math, science, and engineering as well. All graduates are required to take 5 semesters of math (through Calculus and Differential Equations), a year each of chemistry and physics, and 6 semesters of engineering classes regardless of major. During my Naval career, I served as a Training and Readiness officer as well as various instructor positions. For the past eight years my wife and I have homeschooled our three children in all aspects of traditional education.
My career regularly involves conveying very complicated and technical ideas to people in as clear and simple a manner as possible. I take personal pride in doing what is necessary to present the subject matter in a way that the student will understand. I believe ... read more
