I have mentored various people since 2000, in all types of subjects, including math, science, social sciences, English, writing, literature, and other related subjects. My academic record is very strong, and I believe empowering those I work with every single time. The only pre-requisites are that you have to be willing to learn, and learn how to learn.
I like to use the Socratic method, mainly by asking questions and challenging assumptions. In addition, I like to engage those I teach, challenging them to think about what they previously have not considered. I believe in building on successes, and offering constructive criticism, where appropriate.

A Little Bit About Me...

I grew up in Jamaica and my formal years of education were under the british system. This sytem was very student friendly and much emphasis was placed on learning and not testing. I have earned a Bachelors degree double major in Chemistry and Biochemistry from the University of the West Indies Jamaica. A masters degree in Science Education 5-12 from Western Governors University Utah. I also completed my teacher education requirements at University of North Carolina Pembroke. I have over 12 Years of teaching and tutoring experience, I have taught in the North Carolina Public education system for the last 5 years, and is liscensed to teach all the Sciences from grades 5-12.

It is my belief that every student yearns to acquire an education. Accordingly, it is the responsibility of the instructor to find that spark and create a learning regimen geared towards that students specific method of learning. I have always found that the first and often most important thing a teacher can do is find the obstacles to learning that we all suffer from and seek ways to remove them. These may be the so called "blocks" that may develop after negative early experiences, preconceptions about the subject, or simply lack of confidence. Replacing resistance with enthusiasm and interest, and then providing expert guidance can then lead to acheivement.
Originally trained as a teacher of Drama and English, I subsequently spent many years working in the theatre, not only in educational situations but also as an actor, director and writer. I am now semi-retired, but still enjoy working as a teacher, and I currently teach animation and drama. I would welcome the opportunity to do some tutoring in language skills.
