My comments on tutoring Special Education : As a Resource Room teacher for children with Special Needs I had the opportunity to get to know my students very well in a small setting.

I have taught in both public and private school settings. In the public school setting I was a Resource Room Teacher for students with varied learning and behavior needs. I was responsible for writing and implementing each student's IEP's. In addition I created an optimal learning environment for them. In the private setting I taught for a number of years one to one reading instruction for elementary age students. I have also taught and facilitated lessons at a private children's Hands On Science Center.

Special Education is one of my top subjects! Since my fourteen-year-old son was diagnosed with Autism, at the age of eighteen months, I have provided therapy in our home and in camp settings under the supervision of Ph.D. and masters level therapist. I have provided the following therapies: Floortime, Applied Behavior Analysis, and Relationship Development Intervention. I have a love for learning and teaching!

I have been teaching special education for six years. I taught special education to kindergarten through third grade in a Montessori school for four years. I have worked as a Teacher's Assistant for three years where I did extensive tutoring with one student over the course of the year. I found each day of working with my students both challenging and rewarding. I do not believe in a "one size fits all" approach to education; rather I feel that programs should be developed/adapted to meet the needs of each individual. Educators must fit the program to the child, not fit the child to the program.
