Professor of English: to Broaden your Mind and Skills

I have a hands-on approach to teaching. It is my desire to facilitate a student's own ability to self-teach, to solve and understand new problems as they occur. This type of teaching will not only improve whatever English and reading skills needing improvement, but will also translate into all other aspects of their education and life.
I have taught at both the middle and high school level in the subject of English. Within that broad subject I have taught World Literature, British Literature, Creative Writing, Rhetoric, Composition and more. I am currently a Professor at San Jacinto College where I teach collegiate level Composition.

I've never really tutored before outside of helping my classmates, but even still I excel when it comes to teaching others tactics for reading and writing. I am extremely patient and studious when it comes to helping others learn, especially children. I graduated a year earlier than I should have due to skipping a grade because of my reading and writing skills. I took two years of AP English (Rhetoric and Literature) in high school and scored a 4 (out of a maximum score of 5) on my AP exam. I also scored around a 1700 on my SAT, mainly excelling in the Reading and Writing portion.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have dreamed of being a teacher since I was a little girl. I worked towards this goal and received my teaching certificate and then a job teaching 8th grade reading my first year teaching. I have since taught 6-8th English/Reading as well as 8th American History.
I have a love for children, teaching, and learning. This passion is what makes me reach out to help children. I am a firm believer in trying to reach the child through the best way he/she learns. My teaching style is one that I obtained from two of my favorite college teachers whom I wished all others would duplicate themselves after. When I teach, I introduce myself and let others introduce themselves. I project an image of someone who is willing and able to assist and teach...someone who really does care (of which I have been told many times by former students). A Little Bit About Me...

My life has been filled with teaching and working with children. At the age of ninteen as a very young mother I felt a sense of duty in teaching my children how to achive higher than they can ever have imagined. I love to see the look of awe on their faces when they realize that they to can understand which ever subject that slips them. The rest is simple practice, practice, practice seals the deal. Then stride to the next hurdle. Each child has a different way of learning things.
