A Little Bit About Me...

Attaining two degrees has opened my eyes to many different teaching styles and ways of learning. I believe that the most effective way to learn and teach is to explain concepts and theories thoroughly before any application of these concepts. I believe that in order to really learn a subject, and not just memorize it, the theory must be understood. I have tutored high school students and fellow college students in the past, and working as a team to explore the concepts behind the applications has proved to be successful for students' understanding of subject matter and, in the process, furthering my own.

Although I have little teaching experience, I love working with all ages of people. I'm sure I would have a different approach to teaching/tutoring because I have not had any education classes or experience. I would offer a more business/economical outlook on mathmatical skills. I really like to explain and learn how these skills will apply do out daily lives and to our lives in the future.
I began to work at Regions Bank in New Albany the Summer after my Senior year of high school. I have a BA in Political Science/English (1965), and have always loved reading good books and studying history and government. I also have an MBA (1975), and my working career of 40 years has included 25 years in developing Accounting Systems (multiple firms), Telephone Network Systems (Consultant and Senior Systems Engineer at AT&T for 15 years), and Accounting Operations (most recently Controller for a service firm with annual revenues of $15 Million. I developed excellent analytical and writing skills from my work in systems analysis, and also have extensive experience in teaching and training these skills, also from my years in the field.
