I believe everyone has the ability to learn and that this truth is one of our defining qualities as humans. The problem arises when we expect the human mind to work in the same way in every individual, when we attempt to use the same strategies to teach the differing learning styles. I begin with each person by learning myself. I need to know what learning style works best for that person, what has been tried in the past, and his/her successes and failures. A Little Bit About Me...

My experience is as broad as it is varied. When I taught at Sylvan, I taught every course they needed me to. When I taught professionally, I taught teams of scientists and then instructional designers. I'm comfortable with all ages and backgrounds.
Scaffolding and positive reinforcement describes my teaching style; combined with a healthy dose of humor and individual, associative modeling. Learning should be fun and challenging. Busy work doesn't have to take such a negative connotation.
