Biology is one of my top subjects! I have a Ph. D. in zoology, and have been teaching biology-related topics, at all academic levels, for 26 years. Topics I have taught include general biology (all levels), evolution, environmental science, comparative vertebrate anatomy, vertebrate zoology, human anatomy and physiology, and astrobiology.

My philosophy of teaching is guided mainly by one over-riding principle, respect for the student with focus on the individual. I have taken courses with large lecture sections where out of necessity the professor talked at, or worse over, the student audience, and in this situation I have noticed a tendency for students to disconnect from both the professor and the class material, which certainly hindered material comprehension. Based upon this experience, I have come to prefer various forms of Socratic dialog as an instructor. I believe this teaching style has a number of advantages. Using Technology and Simplicity to Explain Difficult Topics

I understand A&P is a very frustrating topic at first. However, what I like to show everyone is we already come in with a great understanding of familiarity of this topic, since we live it every day. What I try to do for the topics that seem very complex is break them down into easy to understand points. For example, I discuss how blood flowing through the vessels is like water flowing through a garden hose.
