More About This Tutor...

I enjoy working with students in small groups, or one-on-one, I believe that in order to help a student succeed in a subject matter in is first necessary to show him/her a real life application of the skill set you are teaching. If you are teaching successive addition or subtractions, the use of a checkbook, and mock purchases, will allow the student to see the value of learning the skill as opposed to simply thinking of it as one more "rote task" she/he must learn to get a passing grade.
I have tutored and mentored in the Seaford School District for 4+ years under the Junior Achievement Program and have worked more informally with my three children and their friends in Math and Science. I believe that every child has a right to learn. I believe that, no matter what kind of problem or learning disability that student has, that he/she deserves to learn. It is the responsibility, not only of the teacher, but the parents, grandparents, siblings and community to help children receive the best education that they can. I believe that all children learn differently. Some learn through doing; some through listening; others are a combination. I teach to each child in the way that best helps them to learn.
While completing my masters in Special Education, I have learned creative ways to help children with special needs that I work with. I have designed and coordinated a Resource Center to help students with special needs learn and achieve at their level. I have also designed and implemented a school for children with special needs.

A Little Bit About Me...

As an Education Director at a Boys & Girls Club, I taught in the non-traditional sense, through after school literature-enhancing programming of various kinds. I instructed K-12 students, and even parents and staff, on many different levels of achievement and ability, so I am very acquainted with diverse populations and accomodating their educational needs through creative tools and approaches.
Since my years as an undergraduate student, one of my passions has always been giving back to the community through tutoring and mentoring. Over the past eleven years, I have tutored countless times, particularly in research paper and essay writing (in various disciplines), literature, and even mathematics. I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Education and seek to continue giving back in this way!

A Little Bit About Me...

As a healthcare consultant with an associate degree in Management and bachelor degree in Business Administration, I spent much of my time writing, presenting, and educating. My mathematical, grammatical, presentation and writing skills were honed. I taught all levels of hospital personnel how to improve operations and use their new computer systems in both classroom and private sessions. I did some private tutoring last summer. I am an approved substitute teacher for the Indian River School District.
Many students have difficulty in a classroom setting because the teacher teaches one way, while not all students learn the same way. I believe in getting to know my students during our initial sessions to discover how they learn. Listening and picking up on verbal and body language cues allows me to relate with students. Patience and perseverance are my strong points. If one method do ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I took a few classes on teaching at a small community college while I was still in high school. I still am considering becoming a teacher after going back to school to complete my major in accounting. I've always been a stronger believer in one-on-one teaching working more proficiently then being taught in a classroom. I am very patient and hard-working. I had an internship at an under-priviledged daycare for local children in Maryland and it was one of the most rewarding things I have ever accomplished. I understand the difficulty in learning new things takes time and patience so I am fully willing to diligently work to help encourage students to strive to reach goals.
I entered DeVry University in Summer of 2007 as an Accounting/Business Major looking to aquire my Associates of Applied Science in Accounting. I took a variety of general education classes such as business, math, en ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

After graduating from college, I worked in a Top Secret position in Washington, D.C. I left that position to pursue teaching, and earned a Masters from Boston University. I taught high school classes for several years, and also worked in IT as a trainer and troubleshooter. I was asked to direct a community college basic skills program, and did so for 7 years, rising to a Dean's level. I have more recently taught and consulted for a private primary school. I have recently moved to Delaware after a long time out West.
I like a jump right in style that is forthright and honest. I have a sense of humor, and will use it teaching, but only sparingly. I believe that the student's desire to learn is the biggest factor in his or her mastering information. I have a lot of experience working with students who have had terrible education experiences, who have not had support at home, w ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I enjoy sharing knowledge with others and believe that teaching is beyond memorizing facts. As an educator I attempt to teach students skills to become lifelong learners through fostering an appreciation of knowledge. My teaching style is adaptable to a particular student's needs, but often incorporates the strategy of relating content material to the individual's existing knowledge. As an informal educator I have experience utilizing hands on learning activities to engage my students. I believe these strategies are what allow individuals to actually gain knowledge.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a teacher I believe that students learn best by doing, so I plan my lessons to engage students with meaningful activities that are mastered with hands on activity rather than teacher lead discussion.
I have worked in a wide range of business and educational settings and have worked with students from grade school to adult. When I earned my BS in English, with a thirty credit business minor, I already had fifteen years experience working in a family run retail store.
