Although, I have never been in charge of my own class room I consider my teaching style energetic. I love working with students of all ages and find that teaching methods and styles tend to adapt to those individual students. I think it is important to be encouraging and patient with all students. I believe in a hand on approach where students learn from experiences and doing rather than being lectured. I would say that it is a little more toward laid back. Being over 6" tall, stocky, pushing hard, being an ogre, hard-nosed, that isn't going to work for me. People have a tendency to be a bit intimidated and fearful because of my size. I will use it to my advantage if it is necessary, or becomes necessary, but I've found being a little more quiet, reserved and coaxing the student to initiate the discussion is a little better. Ask leading questions, adjust and proceed, based on their response.
I have received degrees in Int'l Business from Lourdes College, as well an Associates Degree in Accounting from Owens Community College. I am a graduate of Ohio University with a bachelor's degree in English. In addition to studying English I also studied fine arts (painting, drawing, art history) and Spanish. I have tutored students from ages 5-18 in all subjects including English (reading and grammar), math, social studies, and science. My reading and grammar skills are helpful in all subjects because I am able to take apart sentences and paragraphs so that it is easier for students to understand.
