My comments on tutoring ADD/ADHD : I have been a Special Educator for 40 years. I currently work with students in a Career Center. Many of these students have ADD/ADHD. I assist them with study skills and organizational skills. I have worked with all age groups over my career.

I have a Bachelors Degree in Special Education from Wayne State University. I also have a Masters of Arts in Education also from Wayne State University. I have been teaching Special Education to all ages for over 30 years. For the last 10 years I am a Special Populations Coordinator at a Career Center. I also taught at risk students in the summer for the last 15 years.
My teaching style is to get to know the student and their learning style first. Then make a plan with the content. Continue to evaluate for changes through student feedback.

My teaching style is very hands on. I employ a visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile (VAKT) method for remembering the rules of the English language. This method is described as "direct" or hands on and one-on-one. I only work with one student at a time.

Critical thinking skills and untraditional ways are what I focus on. However the way someone learns, I will try to set the individual up to show how they learn and work with them. Upon graduation from college in 1989, I immediately began my teaching career. I taught Kindergarten my first year then began a challenging yet rewarding run with the severe behaviorally handicapped. I retired in June after 32 years.
