I have 27 years of experience teaching and case managing public school special education students in grades 9-12. I have also team-taught a wide variety of "regular ed" classes, such as English, Math, Science, Social Studies, even Home Ec.! While I was in high school, I took honors courses and graduated with a 4.0 GPA. I tutored an 8th grade-9th grade boy in TCAPS preparation and helped him complete homework in Math (pre-algebra, algebra, and pre-geometry), Science (biology), and English. I tutored him for two years. After I graduated high school I was accepted to the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where I am currently in the spring semester of my sophomore year. I will be returning to Johnson City this summer and am available to tutor. I have been tutoring for over seven years, starting with my peers in tenth grade. I have tutored a wide range of subjects, from Geometry through Calculus III, from general computer knowledge through utilizing the advanced functions of Microsoft Access. I have tutored people ranging from my peers to people three times my age, to as young as third graders. My motto has evolved into "Helping those who feel they can not be helped" I help guide the student along, having them discover much of the information in a trial and error fashion. I tend to use the questions they are struggling with the most, making similar examples, then walking them through these problems and breaking down the problems until the student understands the how the process works.

I observe the students to see what their learning style is and adjust how I teach according to that. For nine years I taught at the elementary level in private schools. I taught some inclusive classes and developed plans for my students to succeed. Identifying a student's learning style and giving them the tools to progress gave them the ability and confidence to do well. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting. I have very strong math skills, especially in Algebra, which is what my daughter is learning now. I excelled in grammar, art, health, and science as well. I was a teacher at a private school for a year after college before I started a family and began home schooling. My daughter is now in the 8th grade and tests at the college level in reading and high school levels at most other subjects. I have a daughter in the 8th grade and a son in the 6th. I have home schooled them the past 9 years. They have very different learning styles which has helped me to learn to teach in different ways to accommodate their needs.
