A Little Bit About Me...

Having grown up with a family of educators, there was never any doubt I would become a teacher. I hold a MS degree in Educational Administration and a BS degree in English and have taught 26 years of high school, primarily seniors. In addition to classroom teaching, I have taught numerous ACT prep classes evenings and was a tutor for Sylvan Learning Center. I feel like it is important to connect to students on a personal level yet still retain a professional attitude. Children tend to respond to someone who is fun and friendly, instead of a person who chooses not to connect with students in this way. I am very passionate about learning and teaching what I have learned to others. I think if you can get a child interested in a subject he or she will be more willing to learn and enjoy his or her work more because he or she is personally benefiting from it. A Little Bit About Me...

I work well with children of all ages and am considerably patient, easygoing, although stern as well with my students. My teaching style consists of visual illustrations mixed with a lecture or teaching session. Through my experiences at USD I have determined that the amalgamation of these two styles produce more stimulating teachings as well as information retention being maximized as well. I typically work off of a performance based reward system since it appears to me that children are motivated by praise and reward in order to push them to do better on each successive obstacle they encounter in the classroom
