I was a senior scientist - engineer for 37 years. I retired to care for my comatose wife at home, and she died a few months later. This situation has left me open to new directions. My teaching experience has been 3 years as a graduate teaching assistant, and 2 years as a tutor to friends and family in science and mathematics. In college I continued to tutor other students in a variety of courses including general logic, chemistry, physics and English. I have an extensive background in physical sciences: BS in Chemistry, extended coursework in geology and a minor in physics. When my children started in school, I would go to their elementary school classes and teach basic physical science concepts. I will work with the students and find where out where they are weakest. By doing so I will be able to give them the knowledge required to understand the material they are struggling with instead of teaching them how to solve the problem at that moment which will prevent them from struggling with mathematics their entire school career. I believe that with out understanding what is going on in the background the students will never fully understand what they are doing.
