A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated from Jefferson High School in the spring of 2012. I now attend Indiana University-Purdue University in Fort Wayne. I have two younger siblings and 4 younger step-siblings that I have helped with their homework, or helped them better understand material assigned to them. Their ages range from 8-17. I know how to explain certain subjects in multiple ways to ensure that eventually the student will understand the material. I am very patient, and I understand that some people learn at slower rates than others. I am majoring in nursing, though I considered teaching English before making this decision. I will receive my bachelors degree in mathematics from Purdue University in May 2012; however I began my college career in math education so I have taken many methods/teaching courses. In the past I have done short-term tutoring for algebra/pre-algebra, geometry, high school calculus (calc 1), and algebra II. Teach through examples. I like to give examples by taking the student step by step to the solution. I then have the student work on his or her own to solve the problem providing additional support without giving the answer. If the correct solution cannot be found by the student, I will provide additional examples to help the student learn the concepts.
