My style has always been to encourage questions from the student or with the many people who have worked for me over the years to challenge the status quo. I encourage individuals to stretch the envelope and to seek different solutions rather than accept what has been done before. I have also stressed that there is never a bad question or wrong to think outside the box. For example I have always asked students, "Why study history?" I enjoy teaching others and helping them excel in their studies. I can relate to younger students because I have a six year old who required extensive help in the area of reading. She was one of my greatest achievements because I had to research a way to communicate on her level of understanding and yet make it interesting and fun. Now instead reading being a weakness it is a strength for her because she has excelled and developed confidence in this area too. I love people's capacity for learning. It gives me joy to know that I have helped another learn something new. I am patient, relaxed, and try to keep tutoring interesting for the recipient. It's important that the tutoree is engaged and enjoys grasping new lessons. I like to guide students into understanding the problem rather than just merely giving them the answer.
In 2006 I graduated from the University of Michigan with a BS in Engineering Science. It gave me an understanding in a broad range of mathematical areas as well as areas of other sciences. During that time I worked with volunteer organizations like Salem Housing and Habitat for humanity for three years, which enabled me to mentor a variety of ages.
