I am currently teaching two compostion courses with Houston Community College but have time available in the early afternoon and evening. I have served in positions such as ESL teacher and ESL interventionist at Elsik High School in Houston, as well as, Bilingual Program Manager for the Louisiana Department of Education. I tend to talk casually with the student and try to understand goals before delving into the material. The relationship is important to me.
My experience is mainly with writing and reading comprehension, but I do have a Bachelor's in Economics. I was a tutor for Macro and Microeconomic principles for 1 year and was a Teacher's Assistant for an advanced Rhetoric and Composition class for 3 years. I have completed my Bachelor's with a 3.7 GPA while keeping a job. Additionally, I recently got into UCLA's MFA film program.

I think it takes a lot for one teacher to reach all of types of students who are all at different levels of interest in the subject being taught as well as at different levels of understanding. However, I feel it is the teacher's responsibility to give them all equal opportunity to learn. It is not just about grades and assignments, that is just the means to an end, but it is about learning. In order for the students to learn, the teacher needs to be passionate about the students as well as the subject that is being taught. That will instill in the students a desire to learn and understand.
