My comments on tutoring Shakespeare : I am well-versed in Shakespeare, having read and studied his works extensively.

I have mentored various people since 2000, in all types of subjects, including math, science, social sciences, English, writing, literature, and other related subjects. My academic record is very strong, and I believe empowering those I work with every single time. The only pre-requisites are that you have to be willing to learn, and learn how to learn.
I like to use the Socratic method, mainly by asking questions and challenging assumptions. In addition, I like to engage those I teach, challenging them to think about what they previously have not considered. I believe in building on successes, and offering constructive criticism, where appropriate.

The teaching style that brings the best success I've found is centered on two points. First of all, it is based on listening, which means getting the student to talk. Eventually, with guidance, I aim to get them the ability to talk through and solve any problem. The second major technique I like to use is analogies. Even complicated subjects can be simplified into their core components which are easy to understand if taught as an analogy to something more familiar in daily life. Just as the Bible uses parables or employers use phrases from team sports to explain team roles, I find lots of success by using analogies.
My specialty is reading, writing and research. I have a bachelor's degree from the University of Texas, where I studied government, law and economics. I believe most students can learn or solve any problem by talking it through, which is often easier and mor ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Working with different age groups, have shown me that every child is their own individual. I get to know the children I work with to understand the best approach to take with them. I can work in small groups, large groups, or individual. Some children are shy and may work better alone. It takes patience to teach and I am blessed to have that gift.
I was determined to be the first to attend and graduate from college out of a big family. I have learned different aspects of Psychology to apply to everyday life. In the last 10 years, I have been working with troubled teens to help them get their lives back on track. I have also done some tutoring in between.

I am an energetic educator and learner. The best way to teach a student is to provide them with the tools they need to discover the information for themselves. A teacher does no good if they simply feed the student the desired information. When we provide the student with the means of discovery, then what they find, they own. Having worked with children of varying ages, I am adept at problem solving and managing conflict, and I have an abundance of patience. Children are eager to learn, and teachers are there to harness that eagerness.
My live for the written word resulted in my acquiring a dual major in both Literature and Creative writing. I have entered the field of education so that I may share this passion with others. For the past eight years I have been working in a Montessori school, first in the early childhood classroom, and now in the elementary classroom, resulti ... read more

I graduated from the University of Tennessee with a BA in English Literature. Through my coursework at UT I polished both my analytical and writing skills, while concurrently gaining comprehensive knowledge of the canonical literature that is taught in school today and the methodology of teaching it. Additionally I have a semester of graduate school in education completed, and am well versed in different teaching strategies and used to working with learning disabled and difficult students.
I believe in inspiring children to be intrinsically motivated to learn. By learning who a child is we, in turn, learn how to teach them. As a preschool teacher I am patient, encouraging, and motivated. My motto is "if at first you don't succeed try again" and it goes not only for the student but also for the teacher. I try to bring in as many outside experiences as possible to help children ... read more

I have taught English to students at levels from seventh graders through college freshmen. My M.A. in English Literature equipped me to inspire both eager and reluctant students to write and read with confidence and capability. As a reporter, a proofreader, and an editor, I used language in the real world, and that application helps me inspire and motivate students. Teaching home-schooled students, international students, and students of widely varying ages, backgrounds, and ambitions has taught me to match the needs of the individual to the requirements of an increasingly competitive world. Teaching high school and college at the same time has given me enviable insight into what students need today to prepare them for tomorrow's needs.
Assuming that most students would rather be anywhere than an English class, I listen to their interests of the moment and then relate them to my go ... read more
