How do I summarize teaching in my life? I guess the best way to explain my teaching experience is to tell you a story. As a young girl I wanted to be a teacher. Because of my love of learning I taught all my siblings how to read. I know it is pretty funny but it is a true story. My teaching experience includes a wide variety of situations. I have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with children in grades kindergarten, one, two, three and four in a number of educational models, including multi-age groupings, departmentalized models and the traditional classroom. In addition to my work with younger students, I have tutored high school and college students, as well as adult learners in the areas of language and writing.
My approach to teaching relies heavily on the use of modeling. I graduated with honors from a formal university, where I tutored fellow classmates; however, I gained most of my tutoring and teaching experience overseas, in a universal classroom. I have taught youth and adults in Mexico, Spain, Chad, Benin, Morocco and other countries. In most of those cases I was teaching English, but I also taught key aspects of health, sustainable development, lifelong skills and leadership. I taught classes ranging in size between 5 and 100.
