Statistics is one of my top subjects!

I am very patient and I make sure the student thoroughly understands a topic before moving on. I motivate the student to succeed and teach good study skills and test taking skills. Normally, I use the student's textbooks and classroom materials during our lessons. For standardized tests, I use prep books, such as Princeton Review. There are three important things that seem very simple that I have learned about tutoring. a) Everyone is scared So much of learning is about dealing with these really harmful notions of self-doubt. I know a guy with a Nobel prize - really, a made in Sweden genuine Nobel prize and he claims that he wrestles with self-doubt when he learns something new. Sometimes my job as tutor is just to get rid of the self-doubt and assure you that you are making progress towards understanding. b)Most of the learning takes place in these short "Aha!" moments and they might be only seconds away. Teaching is really about facilitating learning. I think the best way a student can learn is one-on-one because then they are less fearful to ask questions or make a mistake. This is helpful because then the tutor can see where the students are struggling, and focus on that area. I also think the best way for students to learn is through having something modeled, then guide them through an example, and then done on their own. I believe that patience is a key to being a successful math tutor, because many people do not understand math as easily as others. Problems may need to be done over and over again, or reteaching in many different ways until the students can understand the material in a way that makes sense to them.
