Early Childhood Education Major Experienced in Tutoring

I believe in structured education while leaving plenty of room to facilitate learning through creativity and exploration. I firmly believe in meeting a student where they are academically, socially, and emotionally by adjusting my teaching style to best fit their learning needs. A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated with a Bachelor's in English from Troy University Dothan in December 2009. Since I opted for a Bachelor's in English rather than a Bachelor's in Secondary English Education, I took more writing and literature classes. In all of my English Literature classes, I had numerous writing assignments that helped me learn how to write. I also took writing and grammar classes which helped improve my writing skills tremendously. I tutored when I was in Jr. High School. The student I tutored was learning how to read. I enjoyed the challenge of teaching him to read. I have also taught Sunday School at various age levels.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have 20 years experience in the marines, so I have a no nonsense approach to teaching and tutoring. My own two children (boys, now grown) will tell you that despite my military bearing, I am patient and understanding with kids. I believe the best way to teach children (or anyone) is to create the conditions that will encourage and allow them to teach themselves. I believe that adults model for children continuously. Children mimic our thought processes and our problem solving techniques. We teach best through example.
