I am a teacher and tutor. A good deal of my experience has been teaching Reading and Language Arts. I also have a degree in Learning Disabilities. I have taught general education as well as special education. I have taught at all levels. My most recent experience is in a primary class. Writing is one of my top subjects! As a graduate creative writing major, I know at least the basic tenets of writing. Writing is the act of carefully considering one's words, only on paper and with the advantage of having time to pick them out compared to speaking. Grammar, logical sentences, and communicating ideas efficiently are what I can help you learn, with emphasis on how you can do so with modern technologies. Specifically because my handwriting is terrible, and the art of writing has grown by leaps and bounds thanks to the keyboard.

I think that a lot of learning happens by students being actively engaged in what they are learning. I try to get/make hands on activities for students to learn.

I am a College Student studying English and Politics

I was a tutor in high school for many elementary and middle school aged children. I am also experienced with writing papers, so I can help anyone who is writing for a college application or essay. Once I have an understanding of what a student is capable of I like to push them to go past their "comfort zone" in learning. It helps them understand that what may look difficult, may not always be so and that they only way to find out is to learn it. Also, I do not teach study habits. Instead I like to see what a students current habits are and work on expanding those habits so that the child does not get frustrated and overwhelmed. It is easier to learn more from current knowledge than try to teach a whole new way. After all, most students study habits are based on how their teacher has taught them, and I wouldn't go against what the teacher has taught. Writing is one of my top subjects! I worked as a college writing tutor for three out of four years of my undergrad experience.

I served as a writing tutor to my peers while I was in college. I did this for three years and it seemed to help the students a great deal. This position was accompanied by training provided by one of my professors at Montreat College. The training lasted a full semester. I have also been tutoring a 14 year-old boy in reading comprehension for the past year. He has greatly improved since we started last summer in the speed of his reading, interest in what he is reading, and better comprehension as a whole.
