I have been a tutor since high school. In HS I tutored for ESL (English as a Second Language). More recently I have been a Math tutor at Augsburg College. I am proficient in the subjects ranging from pre-algebra to calculus 3. I am pretty good with statistics and logic (Discrete Math) as well. I also have experience teaching younger children as well. Pre-Algebra is one of my top subjects! I taught Pre-Algebra concepts to a high school student who had educational and developmental deficits. I helped him understand the concepts for 2-3 years while he was in high school. Through my tutoring, he was able to keep his grades up and gain a better understanding in his mainstream math classes (Algebra I, Algebra II).

I have been tutoring students for about 5 years. I started when I was a junior in high school. My first experiences tutoring were through the National Honor Society. I volunteered after school once or twice per week and I tutored mainly ESL students in Math and English. My senior year of high school and throughout the time I was in college, I tutored a high school student who had educational and developmental deficits. He needed help in all of his core classes from 8th grade through 12th grade. I tutored him in Pre-Algebra through Algebra II, History, Science, and English. A Little Bit About Me...

As a teacher I have always desired to teach in a way that I know I am communicating with my students. My teaching style includes making eye contact with my students to make sure they are with me. If I sense that their eyes have "glazed over," it is time for a change of pace. I might interject some humor or tell a short story to give them a break. I know that learning is hard work. I would also use games and projects to give them a change of pace. Sometimes I would assign a lesson for them to teach. Taking classes on field trips as an occasional alternative to classroom teaching is another tool I use, giving my students a passive learning experience.
