I have taken many courses over an extended period of time. In 2002 I entered the Surgical Technology program at Jefferson Technical College; I managed a 4.00 and missed only a couple of days. During the many testing phases of the program I stayed and helped get other students through the program, I was commended on my drive and determination to help other students, all while maintaining my grade average. I pulled down some of the highest scores in the programs history. This didn't go unnoticed, as shortly after graduation I was asked by the Dean of Allied Health and Surgical Technology Program Coordinator to come back and teach. The satisfaction that comes from working with a student, one on one, who is struggling, and seeing them change from angry and insecure to confident and proud is immense. I haven't found it anywhere else. As a teacher, my initial goal is to discover how to facilitate the individual learning styles of my students. I strive to instill a confidence that will lead to a willing and open mind conducive to further learning.
I have been a playwright for the last ten years, which is why I chose to get my BA in writing. I've worked with children in various educational and tutorial capacities over the past years and have a firm belief that every child’s capabilities as a student are connected to the capability of the teacher/tutor to understand the needs of the individual student. I have a strong belief that with patience, persistence and positive reinforcement that every child can do their best.
I have six years experience working with children of all ages in an educational capacity. I worked as a literacy tutor and I taught autistic pre-schoolers in the public school system. I also recently returned from teaching English (ESL conversation, reading and comprehension, writing and grammar) in South Korea where I worked and lived for eighteen months.
