Over the past three years, I have tutored several students in mathematics, biology, and biochemistry at the Academic Support Unit of the Multicultural Life Center at the University of Tennessee Knoxville. I guided their development of individual note-taking strategies, study habits, and problem solving skills. I chose to tutor mathematics and biology in order to enhance my interpersonal, people management and critical thinking skills. Based on my own experience as a student and as a teacher, I feel confident when I say that what matters is not really the amount of knowledge you have but your capacity to transmit the knowledge on the given subject. Therefore, I count patience and adaptation as the most important qualities for tutoring. If you are not capable to transmit your knowledge, then there is no point on teaching! In addition, most students lack self-confidence, so I do my best to rebuild that confidence within themselves by showing them that they are capable of doing it. I consider that it's not up to the student to adapt himself to the teacher, but it's the teacher who has to adapt his teaching method to each particular student. A Little Bit About Me...

In my office hours, I would tutor students individually on the areas in which they had difficulty. My teaching style is sculpted to fit each individual student. Sometimes students would benefit from me working through each mathematical question on the board and working through them step by step. Other times students learned better by doing most of the work on their own, with helpful reminders along the way.
