As a college graduate, I have taken several courses to enhance my knowledge base in education. I have earned a BS in Elementary Education with endorsements in Reading and Special Education and a MS in Secondary Education with an endorsement in Guidance Education. I will be graduating in May with a Specialist in Education degree. As a public school educator, I teach in a self-contained setting. I teach Reading, Language, Spelling, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies everyday. I love teaching as a facilitator. I want my students to be engaged and explore in the classroom. I first introduce myself and get to know a little about the student I am tutoring. Then, I establish a baseline of what they have learned so that I can direct my attention to their strengths and weaknesses. Finally, I get into the material with the student and show them how and why the material is important and applicable in the world in which we live. I have served as a substitute teacher in Hayward, CA for 1 1/2 years. I worked as a tutor for Learning & Loving It in San Jose, CA for 3 years. I served as a tutor and teacher of adult education in Loganville, GA for 1 year. I am currently on the substitute teacher roster for the Vicksburg School District, and I have been so for two years.

My teaching style is to merge technology, current events, and thought provoking question into one. I related the given subject to the student as best as I can. This makes the subject personal and it makes the information easy to retain. During my education at Alcorn, I have helped a myriad of my colleagues with papers, historical facts, and a general/detail understanding of a given historical topic. I would routinely do this three to four times a week. This opportunity helped to expand my knowledge and expound the students.

My teaching methods are structured and developed for each individual person. I believe that there are many ways to teach a student. The key to successful teaching is finding out how your student learns; auditory, visual, didactic or with a combination of learning styles. I use a combination of visual and didactic aids in my lectures. I encourage an environment where questions are welcomed. I want students to not just learn the material but understand it as well. I try to make learning fun and relate it to things that they may find interesting. I am a college graduate that has spent the past 8 years working in health and science education and development. During this time I have not only developed educational programs for low literacy and bilingual groups, written grants for government funding for Health educations, but I learned how to educate people of all types of literacy levels.
