I am a Senior Computer Science major at Siena college; my programming experience covers a range of languages, although my strongest is Java. I am currently certified by CompTIA as an IT Technician (A+ Certification), and have built 5 personal desktops over the years for clients. I love working with people, and have a lot of patience. I work hard to let the student work through problems themselves before assisting them. A lot of students I have spent time with just need a small amount of encouragement and are very capable of completing their work. I enjoy working with different types of people, and adapt my style to fit their needs.
I started tutoring in 9th grade, and continued until my freshman year of college. I tutored middle school and high school students in math, sciences, and social studies. I believe learning and knowledge is gained through careful deduction and observation. Certain material often from the onset might seem unreachable , however a good teacher will find several different ways to link information that initially might not seem related to help the student gain a better understanding of the material. I do not believe in memorization of countless facts, i believe in the understanding of core principles and information that allows an individual to observe and make their own conclusions about the material being taught. How do I summarize teaching in my life? I guess the best way to explain my teaching experience is to tell you a story. As a young girl I wanted to be a teacher. I have taugh young girls ranging from 10-13 years old for an LDS Church, and enjoyed working with these girls, arranged activities to fun places and helped college students with certain skill sets - math, English, Computer Programming (C+, Networking, Access, PeopleSoft). I am a very helpful person who loves to help others to success with their classes, and enjoyed seeing how their grades improved with some of the help that I have rendered to these students - they did well on their tests, quizzes and coached them with Speech class as well.
