It is difficult to describe my teaching style because I try to adapt to the student. Students learn differently and therefore it is my belief that you must observe first and then you have to adapt to the student, especially in a one on one situation. Some students may learn better if you play a game with them, others if you read them a passage. I try to learn as much as I can about the student and adapt to their individual needs, especially for those with learning disabilities and special needs.
I have had a deep interest in helping people since I was a young child. Seeing someone succeed because of my help is one of the greatest motivators for me, especially when it's "against the odds". When working with students, my goal is that they internalize concepts and strategies that will ultimately enable them to perform independently. Then, when teaching reading and writing, I emphasize underlying structures and organization of text and the steps in the writing process. How do I summarize teaching in my life? I guess the best way to explain my teaching experience is to tell you a story. As a young girl I wanted to be a teacher. Because of my love of learning I taught all my siblings how to read. I know it is pretty funny but it is a true story. That led to my doing teaching seminars, which led to consulting, which led to training, which led to my working with individuals as a life coach. I began my professional career in land surveying. After the birth of my two sons I revised my goals toward an educational experience at the elementary level. I completed my practicum in Elementary Education and performed a year of substitute teaching in both the elementary and middle school levels. Since that time I went on to complete a secondary degree in mathematics with a certification in secondary level education.
