My comments on tutoring ACT : professional development training in ACT prep as well as test taking skills scored a 30 in math and 28 overall myself. Of the 4 students I've tutored in ACT prep 3 scored over 20 the first attempt, none below 18 on the 1st attempt

I would describe my teaching style as dynamic, creative student-centered
I've either taught or tutored in some form or fashion for over 17yrs now. I've had ages 3yrs to 22yrs old covering all manner of subjects and hobbies. One of my most rewarding experience was with an 18 year old special needs 10th grader ready to drop out of school. We met 2-3x a week for 6mths. In that time he raised his GPA from 1.2 to 2.7. He completed his 10th grade year and went on to take and pass the G.E.D. the following year.

Math can lead to greater success.

I use both tactile and working through examples to explain how to solve a problem. I like to break down the problems into smaller pieces and work each piece at a time. I also backtrack to previous related concepts to ensure understanding.
I have experience tutoring elementary math, algebra, geometry, college algebra , and preparation for the ASVAB and SAT tests. While tutoring my students I not only explain the method in solving a math problem, but I also challenge them with leading questions. I want to ultimately help them to develop a process to efficiently work through a problem. Also, I have a strong desire for my students to succeed in passing their class. Finally, I am passionate about students reaching their goals in math and other areas of their life.

A Little Bit About Me...

Brain-based, student-centered
I'm Ebony! I graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor's in Cognitive Studies and Education, and earned a Master's degree with distinction in Curriculum and Instruction. I am a Cognitive Specialist/neuroeducator whose sole objective is bridging the divide between the student and the content, using methods based on the individual's learning style. As I think back to when I have achieved most success as a student, it was always because of a phenomenal educator who taught the content in ways that appealed to my learning style. I was immersed in the content, and I thrived because of it. I provide the same instructional strategies and experiences for my students, who vary from children with neurological differences such as Autism, Dyslexia, and other learning differences, to gifted students, to adults who never learned how to read or perform mathematics. More About This Tutor...

I majored in math at Ohio state university in Columbus, Ohio. I was a resident advisor and resident manager while in college and tutored several students voluntarily in the resident halls and libraries. I also worked as a part time nanny and helped the children with homework. After graduation I was offered a job at an early learning center in Columbus where I worked as a preschool teacher for 2 years. I tutored throughout my time there during the after school program with elementary level students. I love math and it is a subject that has always been easy for me. I believe many students struggle with math because they don't have a teacher who is able to cater to their specific learning needs. I am extremely patient, encouraging and motivated to help people believe in themselves and their abilities, I know what it's like to feel disappointed, confused, misunderstood. All it takes is one p ... read more

I enjoy the wonders of discovery and assisting others with master concepts and practical logic that helps them in every aspect of their lives. Tutoring is not so simply as to aid a child in finding the answer or getting a college student to pass the examine. It is truly the disciplined approach to knowledge and truth that allows one to branch into new facets of understanding and truth. To tutor means to assist another in seeking real truth and understanding that will allow success and confidence to build.
I have a passion for language and rhetoric. Words, truth, knowledge, and exploration have marked my academic career. I studied with two colleges during my Associate years in order to obtain lessons in Japanese. Through my educational track I have been a biology, chemistry, and state testing teacher.
My teaching style is to teach the whole child. I acknowledge that not all of my students will be the same academically; but I know I can help each child on an individual basis and with a different learning tool. Being very creative is a must to make sure to keep them interested in their learning. As a teacher I believe that students should learn to make those decisions that will be required of him or her as a mature adult. My first experiences with tutoring were as a volunteer when I was an undergraduate. I tutored a variety of students from children to adults and found great joy in being able to help them learn math. During my time as a graduate student, I have tutored many students ranging from a group of 3rd graders to college level students. I have also taught college level courses, which gives me the unique perspective of knowing what a teacher expects from his/her students.
I love teaching math. I personally believe that all people can master and succeed in math. I find each student approaches math from a different perspective, and it is my goal to determine this perspective and use it to best teach him/her the subject. I have been told that my love of math makes those that I teach and tutor more excited about math. My goal is to help my students learn math, to relieve their anxiety, and ... read more

I believe education begins in each individual's experience of life and, as such, I whole-heartedly endorse an approach that reflects and considers the individual student and his/her life. Additionally, I believe literature can and does relate to our everyday existence, teaching us about ourselves and our world. This is why I love literature and why I love teaching literature.
As a scholar who has studied both in the United States and abroad, I have a broad range of experiences that enable me to approach teaching with an unique outlook. The excellence of my education of course under-girds my ability to tutor and to teach; this education is grounded in both a Liberal Arts knowledge of Western literature and a graduate level focus on Irish literature. At Creighton and at Queen's, I wrote several in depth research papers that required research, literary analysis, organization, and ... read more
