My comments on tutoring Psychology : I am currently finishing my master in Psychology and have successfully completed each coarse with successful status.

I have been working with the school system for several years. I am currently teaching a fourth/fifth grade split. I am very experienced in working with children who are at risk, special needs, and add/adhd. I have a proven track record of student growth in core subjects of 1 year 3 months. I enjoy tutoring and teaching and I work a great deal with parents in order to keep the educational goals on the same page for their child. I have experience in both the world of sociology and psychology. I am able to adapt to behavioral issues that plague some children. I work hard to really get to know the student and help them calm themselves if they should have test anxiety etc. Every child is unique and all children have to be taught in the way in which they can truly learn. I always teach with different styles due to my experience working in China, Ohio, and other areas.

My comments on tutoring Psychology : I've received a minor in Psychology, as well as a degree in Mathematics and Criminology.

I tutored one of the students in my High School in his Algebra class. During the course of the tutoring, his grades on his test progressively increased. His final grade in his class was a "B." While attending college, I applied to become a Peer Tutor at Capital University. I was offered a position as part of the tutoring staff, and over the course of the two years in which I worked as a Peer Tutor, I helped a lot of Undergraduate students in all of the courses that I felt the most comfortable in, including Business Calculus, Calculus for the Biological Sciences, Geometry, Trigonometry, etc. I had many regular students during the course of the two years in which I worked as a tutor. I enjoyed helping them, and they seemed to understand the course material better over the course of the semester. I loved helping all the different students, too.

I started tutoring in high school, where I spent my summers volunteering as a teaching assistant at Breakthrough Summer School (a program I also attended as a student when I was entering 5th and 6th grade) in classes that ranged from Math to Biology. As an undergraduate, I further gained teaching experience through a UCSD grant for tutoring 6th-8th grade Math at middle schools (identified with a high percentage of military families) in the San Diego Unified School District. Furthermore, in volunteering with the International Rescue Committee, I had the opportunity to work with quite diverse populations in San Diego through assisting (high school age) refugees from all over the world with ESL coursework. During the fourth year of undergrad, I interned as a teaching assistant for two lower-division general education courses (World History to 1500 C.E. and American History to Reconstruction ... read more

Unique Tutor

Substitue teacher and esl tutor for the past 4 years. I worked with various classes from Algebra to IEP classes and ESL, from Science to Social studies and everything in between. I taught classes and did not hand out worksheets. My rules in class were, you dont waste a class period. I used litle tricks to make sure they did not waste time and actually learned from me. My students often come up to me when they see me in public to say I was their favorite sub. I started off in Art Education as a major but left to go into Marketing. The IEP classes and learning disabled classes allowed me to work one on one with students which I enjoyed.
I often use word games or riddles as rewards for good work. It motivates effort from my students and makes them listen more closely. With my esl students, I made sure to apply new words to their life in order to gain the most retention of the new vo ... read more

If I can be a motivating influence in a young person's life, I could not think of a more rewarding achievement. As a teacher, I am organized and prepared to find and use any method, technique, and hook in a collaborative effort for performance improvement or to meet the expectations of any individual student. The core value of my life has been education in many different forms.
I believe in lifelong education as indicated in my diversified background. I have experience in education, government, and business, obviously, I am always interested in a challenge and assisting students who are having difficulties is one of those challenges. I have just returned from a year in Italy where I worked with high school seniors to be admitted to universities in Britain, Europe and United States. Also, I tutored students in English and am certified to teach English as a Second Language.

Being a current student myself, I can appreciate the hardships and struggles of education. I feel that you must always level with your students, no matter what the age. The students are the ones who must lead the class. However, we as educators have a duty to guide and to nourish this idea. We must be leaders who encourage a positive and productive learning environment, while also maintaining an enjoyable experience. I believe in a split between communicative and explicit teaching. Students are given input through examples and other meaningful activities. They then are encouraged to attempt their own output through group work, homework, or discussion. At this point, students are prepared to solidify their learning with charts, graphs, mnemonic devices, and/or questions/answer sessions. Finally, new material is segued into the review, restarting the learning cycle. This overlap ... read more

I love working with children, and feel that I can relate to them because I struggled in my early school years. I feel it's important to identify each child's learning style, and use that knowledge to help them discover the potential that they each hold. I feel it's extremely important to help them build their confidence, because anxiety only distracts them from the learning process. Finally, I try to make learning fun, by identifying each child's main intersts.
During my years at The Ohio State University, I earned a B.A. in Psychology, and completed a year and a half of Masters work in Social Work. After completing my B.A., I was hired as a professional tutor. I tutored college students in various subjects including English and essay writing, Psychology, Reading, some Spanish, and Social Studies.

I love working with children of all ages and I believe that all children should have an equitable education. Because of the skills and abilities I possess in reading I have been able to help my own child achieve beyond her grade level and she is currently in the gifted program for reading. Because I am a school counselor by profession I make sure that I always listen to students and help them overcome any obstacles they may face. I believe that with individual attention all students are capable of excelling in their academics.
During my undergraduate studies at OSU I was trained by Americorps to tutor elementary students in reading and math. I worked for two years in the Columbus Public School System helping students that were behind their grade level in those subject areas. In my current high school position I teach a Career Based Intervention class and I assist students with thei ... read more

Since I find Biochemical processes so exciting, it is easy for me to get other students excited about them as well. Many students feel that the sciences are boring and dull. However, when I explain the processes to the students in their own terms instead of the textbooks they begin to realize that it can be fun! The first step to getting a student to understand the natural sciences is to spark some interest. This can be done through visual aids, models and a variety of other non-tradtional approaches.
Graduating from a liberal arts univeristy with a Bachelor's degree in Biology along with a minor in Chemistry has provided for me an incredibly well rounded educational experience. I have a solid understanding of the the natural sciences along with comprehensive lab experience in anatomy, physiology, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, along with other disciplines.
