Let's make learning fun!!!

I have worked with children for over 15 years. During this time I have provide homework help and tutoring in Math, Reading and Spanish. The children that I have worked with range in age from 5 to 17 years old. I have also done an extensive amount of work with infants and toddlers in the field of early learning as a nanny. My experience in working with children of so many ages has helped me to know what steps to implement in order to make children feel comfortable and confident while addressing challenges to learning materials. I have always enjoyed math and reading as a student and spent a short period of time studying Spanish abroad. During my time in college I was even more hands on with the youth enrichment at my church, working as a counselor/mentor for Vacation Bible School and the after school program.
I like to do a lot of positive reinforcing and reaffirming.

What a better way to teach your teen than by a teen?

I graduated high school in late October of 2012. I am not currently in college. I am working twords bettering my future. I enjoy helping others and I find it easy. I used to be tutored and I hated it because the tutors seemed to not care if I got it. I make sure the person or people I am tutoring understand and remember how to do what I am asked to teach them. In high school my teachers used to send me to other classes and tutor kids in the middle of class. I am extremely flexable and can help just about anyone I try to teach. I will not say every because no one is perfect and I'm not going to pretend I am.

Any problem can be broken down into a simple set of steps

Applying the proper "learning process map" is essential for a student's success in learning and retaining information related to any subject: 1. Understand the application of a problem being presented to the student. 2. Apply and retain a simple set of steps required to solve the problem. This is essential to the students learning success. Many students first attempt to focus on a single problem without an understanding that the basic steps to solving the problem are the same. 3. Once the student has understood and retained step 2, then begin to present the student with numerous example problems to solve that present the same basic steps regardless of the appearance of the problem.

I believe in creating an atmosphere of mutual respect. I use a technique to assess what the student already knows by observing them and asking questions. Understanding their starting point will me help them to take their learning to the next step. By being familiar with their skills sets and their learning needs, I am adding to the student’s skills and knowledge, while respecting their personal learning process. I believe that explaining underlying accounting fundamentals reinforces learning and asking questions is the usual way I measure a learner’s knowledge. I am knowledgeable, patient and considerate.
As a National Dean's List graduate from Alvernia University, I am driven towards high standards. I am semi-retired. Earning a Certified Public Accountant designation from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has enabled me to gain a broad understanding in areas of accounting, ... read more

I took three years of Spanish courses in college. I supervised children in school and daily activities, but was also responsible for helping them complete all homework assignments, organize educational activities , help teach all school subjects, as well as tutor children in need of extra help in school. I believe in constructivism. Students learn more when they make their own learning. They need to see the real world application of the material and how it applies to them. I try to create tasks that are hands-on, use authentic materials, and encourage students to collaborate with others and think outside of the box.
I have taught high school in three different countries: Germany, UK and USA. I am passionate about foreign languages and social studies, and I care about my students. It is my intention to broaden their horizons and help them reach their potential as students and as human beings.

I have earned two bachelor degrees, a BS in Chemistry (a subject which I have always loved and understood) and a BS in Physics (a subject which gave me great difficulties in high school but a subject which I have come to enjoy). In addition, I was a mathematics aide for a year at Schuylkill Valley High School. In all my experience, I have taught everything from Algebra I to Calculus. I teach as if each student was my own child. I treat students the same way I would want my own children treated. Therefore, I teach with the same inspiration.
