A Little Bit About Me...

While my experiences have encompassed many disciplines and languages, among them German and Russian, my education from Columbia University has provided me a strong background in the liberal arts and humanities. I have strong analytical, compositional and grammatical skills as a result of writing papers, participating in peer edits, and teaching grammar in an English as a Second Language program. In the past seven years, I have tutored basic GED subjects, taught English in both New York City and Yaroslavl, Russia, and excelled in my degree program, gaining a great deal of knowledge in many different subjects.

My passion is the arts. I have explored a variety of areas including fibers, painting, drawing, 3-D, mixed media, collage, clay, graphic design, etc. Skills from all academic areas are used in the arts from math to history. An arts educaiton has been proven to increase learning in these areas and raise test scores. I was a K-8 art public education teacher for three years. Learners who have experienced repeated failure need successful experiences to help build self-confidence; I start with what they can do successfully already. Knowing the individual's interests and talents helps me tie the topic to something important to the student, and to help them understand how the topic relates to their present and future lives.
