A Little Bit About Me...

I am a senior, math major at Marist College. I have a strong background in calculus and algebra. Scored a 700 on my math SAT section. Math is something that I am extremely passionate about and believe that STEM majors are the best ones to get you far in the world. I also have a strong background in cognitive thinking and leadership.
I enjoy working with students who want to learn and grow. I am very relaxed and don't just read from the book and give examples. I like to help the student with examples first and then put them to the test.

I am not a teacher; I am an awakener!

Very skilled in teaching a variety of learning styles across the different areas of the multiple levels of intelligences.
I have taught in the education field since 1999. I am very fortunate to have had the privilege of working with a multitude of learners in a variety of environments. Early in my career I worked with adults that were mentally and physically challenged. I found this very rewarding and decided to pursue a degree in education, which lead me on my journey into the world of Special Education. I began working with children and young adolescents who had a variety of special needs and learning styles; I went on to specialized Autism and Special Education for K-12. After working with young children for many years I decided to branch out to work with young adolescents and adults pursuing their high school equivalency. The success rate was over 90%. I have tutored both adults (preparing for their GED and LPN exams in Math and English) and young adults (preparing for college exams) during the last four years.
Teaching is a skill that I have mastered and I have been successful at finding a fun way of getting students to learn. A Little Bit About Me...

I do not have a lot of experience in the teaching field but I am a natural born teacher. I have been a mentor to many people in my life; friends, co-workers, even family members would say the same. If given the opportunity I will be able to grow with and enjoy the success of all my students. We will indulge in the passion of education!
I am a very interactive, do-it-yourself kind of educator. There is nothing more liberating and inspiring than understanding and recognizing the limitlessness of one's own ability. With just the right push from me, our children can reach unbeleivably great heights!

I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the State University of New York at SUNY New Paltz and I have matriculated into the Master of Arts in Biology program at the same university. As a result of my many research and laboratory reports I have excellent writing and typing skills and have completed many writing assignments including numerous essays in various fields as a requirement of completing my Bachelor of Science degree. Because I have coursework at the graduate level in the field of biology, I have taught at the college level and will continue to do so next semester, so I have roughly 1 year of experience teaching students.
I have several years experience working with children and adults in the education field. The students I have taught at the college level ranged from late teens to early 30s. As I have worked with such a wide range of ages I am familiar ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I attained my first degree in Supply Chain Management from Syracuse University in 2003. After working in that field for a few years, however, I chose to change my career path. I then went back to school at the City College of New York to pursue a degree in Civil Engineering. I am happy to say that I am graduating this month (December 2010), and have not regretted pursuing this second degree at all. Through my college experiences I have completed over 220 credits in many subjects, with my strongest in the math, sciences and engineering.
Attaining two degrees has opened my eyes to many different teaching styles and ways of learning. I believe that the most effective way to learn and teach is to explain concepts and theories thoroughly before any application of these concepts. I believe that in order to really learn a subject, and not just memorize it, the theory must be underst ... read more

More About This Tutor...

Most of my career has been spent at IBM, where I built on my Physics background for a broad range of opportunities. I am now seeking to move into a teaching career and plan to start a Masters in Teaching in the Fall of 2009. During my educational development, I taught for three years in undergraduate and graduate school as part of the duties of a teaching Assistant. I have tutored secondary school students for the last 5 years in Math, Physics, and Chemistry.
I enjoy helping students understand the principles they are dealing with, rather than focusing on helping them simply "get the answer" to the problem at hand. My goal is for them to be able to generalize the concept and apply it in different contexts. To develop interest, I seek to discuss related information or similar problems as much as possible. For Physics in particular, this approach is key to providing a sound fou ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy tutoring immensely and look forward to beginning again. I like the challenge of engaging and reaching different types of learners. I use my social works skills in tutoring and vice versa. I think these two fields are closely related in the sense that I seek to empower my students as I would my clients.
I have several years of tutoring experience at various settings including urban, suburban, and rural high and middle schools. I have tutored such subjects as French, Spanish, Math, and English. I have also tutored college students in subjects including sociology, psychology, statistics, and others. I have instructed students on various study techniques, writing skills, and note-taking practices. I am currently a licensed social worker with a range of experiences building rapport with young people and collaborating with school staff and officials.

A Little Bit About Me...

Having a BSEE and graduating on the dean's list, my tutoring experience started in college. I tutored other students in Math, Algebra, Calculus, and English. I recently tutor computer illiterate people in Microsoft, and how to send and receive email. I have extensive writing and oral skills to put together proper sentence structures for all ages. In the last 10 years I've tutored mostly essay/report research and composition. For children it has mostly been reading, writing, spelling, proper speech, math, and earth science.
I tutored other classmates in Calc 1 to Calc 4 using easy memory tricks to remember formulas for Integration derivitatives of equations. I like working with students and believe I can provide a service that will help them with the math they will use in the real working force. I will work with a student for as long at takes until they understand the p ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I do enjoy helping anyone write a well developed and educated paper on the topic at hand. My specific style of teaching, especially for the 8th grade, is to read the current book being used, and then present my lesson with lecture, interactive discussion and comprehension, based on the age and grade of the student. I like to put the lesson into terms that the age group can relate to, and then assign a memory technique that will teach the students to recall the proper answer by using the examples we have discussed in class. That is the same method that I use myself when I need to write a paper. I read it, analyze it, comprehend it, and then write a paper based on what I can relate it too. This technique is very effective when teaching religion, and I have taught my students to use the same technique when attending academic study.
Upon my decision to return to college and obtain ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I believe teaching is more than just showing how to solve a problem, but is helping the student to discover the “bigger picture”. For that reason, I ask a lot of questions to ensure that a student is not just learning by rote, but understands a topic within its larger context. In that way, he or she is learning not only how to solve a particular problem or answer a specific question, but also how to apply it to other problems in the future. I also like to make problems relevant. Students often complain that there is no reason to study something – math, for example. But I like to show that indeed, they use it all the time and that it can be fun. Learning should not only be effective, but enjoyable as well.
At my Ivy League college, we were taught not just facts, but how to learn. This invaluable skill has stood me well and put me in an excellent position to teach. I have continued ... read more
