Some of my most rewarding times in life have been those when I help a student understand a concept that has bewildered him. I am usually able to find a unique way to make the student think about his learning. I try to teach to mastery. I don't believe efficient learning takes place in any discipline if one hasn't mastered some of the basic principles. I encourage exploration of alternative methods for problem solving. I enjoy a good reputation with students because they understand that I care that they actually master their own education. I am extremely patient and friendly. I have experience working with both audio/visual learners and a kinesthetic/tactile learner. The kinesthetic/tactile learner had learning disabilities akin to ADD, but still did very well in the small group environment. I believe that children who want to learn will do so given the proper setting and sufficient time to succeed. I have very high patience for children who try hard and still struggle, but I do expect the student to give their best effort at each task.
I earned a Bachelor of Science from The Ohio State University in 1984. My subjects of passion were math and science and I enjoy working with children who struggle in those areas. I have home schooled my son through the end of 12th grade and he was ready for college freshman classes at age 15.
